Wise words indeed , keep it simple and everything gets better , not just photography , keep up the excellent work 👍
Thank you.
Absolutely first class and wonderful story telling , the pictures shown were very good indeed , excellent video, congratulations my friend on a fantastic piece of work !
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for sharing your assignment.
Thanks for coming along.
Certainly a camera I would love to own and try out sometime!
It's lovely!
@@toddkorolphoto What lens would you suggest for it to start with?
@@tgchism I would start out with a regular 150mm lens, and learn it from there.
Beautiful collection. Could not believe this camera can produce such stunning images. TFS.❤❤❤❤
Thanks, yes the camera is great!
Great images Todd📸
Awesome video! Looking forward to sharing it with my family.
Fabulous place.
Todd, people always have an issue with people spending money and perceived value. The way I see it, we work, we work hard to support ourselves and families. I turned 50 years old last year and went out and purchased my first Leica camera. Yes, it cost a lot, yes I had some people mock me for spending the money ' on a camera ' I don't, care, I work and and I want to enjoy life. Since owning my Leica camera, I have enjoyed photography more. When people say new gear doesn't make your photography better, I 100% disagree, I have gone out more and appreciated photography more since starting with my new Leica, Cheers from Australia, love your work.
Well said, enjoy that camera!
great plains are in smerica; they are not called this in canada.
Actually the Great Plains lay east of the Rocky Mountains, and are in fact in parts of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and then run south through the central United States, including Montana, North and South Dakota, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, they don't stop at the Canadian border.
@@toddkorolphoto As a Canadian we've never acknowledged American exceptionalism in naming anything they wanted. We're not american lapdogs.
Excellent as usual Todd.
Thanks!
Very nice video
Wow!!!! Such an amazing place and such amazing photos!
Yes it sure is, and thanks!!
Wonderful video
Thank you very much.
You are a fabulous photographer
You are very kind, thank you!
I love your photos and the approach. I am curious to know how you get in touch with your subjects and get them to agree to a photoshoot? I'd like to do similar, but this first crucial step can be a tricky one particularly with introverts like myself. Once I have a subject in front of my camera I'm comfortable and fine with getting the shot - it's just the first bit that is tougher!
You have to get to know people first, curiosity for sure. I like to find out about people’s lives, who they are and what makes them tick.
I'm curious how you dated it to 1909. Is there a table of serial numbers somewhere on the net? I'd like to be able to date mine more accurately. It's listed in Gundlach catalogs until at least 1925. Yours must be a deluxe model of some sort as the others I've seen are chrome plated rather than the then brand-new stainless steel on yours. Great cleaning job, looks new!
Thanks. The guy who sold it to me his grandfather bought it and the receipt was still in the case.
@@toddkorolphoto such luck!
Nice.
That was good…….!
In my opinion only GITZO tripods are worth buying
Not sure about that anymore, I have two Gitzos, I like my Leophoto better. And cheaper.
Great video RS. Canada
Todd, what dark cloth are you using with the Chamonix and what are your thoughts on it.
Thank you for your so interesting videos. Happy Birthday
Sheer class. Brilliant video and beautiful images. Thanks for uploading. Atb.
Thanks for the channel. The tension created with the musical choice that accompanied the photographs really conveyed that "spooky" feeling for me. Great choice!
amazing work

Nice, thanks for the info.
What a neat story and creative urban planning. Thanks for sharing.
Indeed, thanks.
That is one beautiful building 😍😍😍
So cool - and what a great project to be hired to do! As much as I love photographing the exteriors of abandoned places, I hardly ever get inside, so I'm jealous! ;-) Cheers!
Thanks it was a very cool project.
Great work, I thinking of doing that with the Palm Springs Pride parade.
That would be great, and I've been to the Palm Springs Pride parade.
Fantastic! So glad you were able to document the point in time before the building's rebirth. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching, cheers!
This is cool as hell. I went to a rave at that building before the restoration, but I'd never seen it in its decayed state like you've shown.
That's great would have liked to have done that back in the day.
I have been after one for along time . How hard is it to develop the film? What size do you recommend to start off with? Do I start with an 8 x 10?
Yes they are great, but if you are just starting out in large format I would try a 4x5 before jumping into 8x10, and learning how a large format camera works and if you like the process. You just need a couple of trays to develop film.
Fabulous! Love your work. Love your videos. Thanks Todd.
Thank you so much!

Wonderful photos.
Thank you.
Fantastic photos! I performed in that neighborhood many times (electronic music) and was always curious about that building. I need to go back and check it (and the neighborhood) out again. Also, the music you chose to go with the images was awesome! Who is that? Thanks, as always, for your cool work!
Thank you. Yes it's a great part of the city. Music by Eden Avery and Rayo Z. That's what I was going for, and underground electronic vibe that suited the place, and a music that you might here in a video installation at a modern art museum, thanks for noticing. Cheers
spectacular photos!!!
Many thanks!
Wonderful images!
Thank you.
So good. Well done
I wish my town would create such art center in the old chocolate factory, but they prefered to build expensive lofts for rich people
Money almost always wins...
The sad thing about this neighborhood is that the revitalizing of that building prompted rents in the area to go up in a crazy way. There were many artists who were forced to move out of their studios because they could no longer afford rent.
@@paulstillwell yes for sure. I photographed a lot of those artists at the time very sad. I am all for having places for artists to create. Unfortunately across the country rents are now crazy, this country has become very hard to live in.
@@paulstillwell gentrification , it's happening in my area
I got a chance to visit Tower Automotive while it was still empty and abandoned, I wish I had gotten more photos. Still need to check it out as the new museum!
Oh cool, very cool place, the new Museum is great, glad it's now in Toronto, I was just there last week. Cheers
Hello from France Todd. I have X1D2 and would like to know what kind of filter you are using (the type of set). Thank you. Inspiring work.
Thanks, I use the Freewell system.
You need to set up some cones, dude.
Happy belated birthday, Todd! Love the shots you got 💐🥳
Love to see comparison to today’s high end digital photos to highlight the differences
The highlights come out better on film. It has a less processed look. The colors look more subdued, less neon- or videogame-like. There's more presence in the shots. You don't have any digital artefacts. Objects that are in the background fade and blend away better (no nyquest limit). There will be specks of dust and dirt. The amount of information (in large format) will dwarf any digital image, in both resolution and color information. Digital has to guess by interpolation 2/3 of its color information. It has to then assign each pixel a number with color information. The pixels are lined up in nice neat rows. Film has tiny ink clouds which are spread out randomly. Digital, by my estimate, looks more clinical and sterile, more video-game like. Film, high-end, looks sharper, more put together, with a natural look to it. If you look all day at digital images, your brain will start to like the brighter colors with less variation between shots. If you look at all film collections for a while, your brain will start to prefer the less saturated look.
Happy birthday . Great shots.
Very good info here for sure....

I use mostly the 30 and 45 lenses for Xpan mode.
